Martin Isenburg has put together a set of benchmarks showing compression ratios for elevation data stored as GeoTIFF. While there are some clear winners, the impressive results of DEMzip for compression are worthy of further investigation.
First independent #DEMzip tests using #GDAL are in: Input are 1m elevation rasters from aerial #LiDAR stored as 32-bit floating point #GeoTIFF. Closest GeoTIFF competitor uses COMPRESS=LZW, PREDICTOR=3, DISCARD_LSB=12. Setting #NODATA is important. #EsriUC https://t.co/xmt5AKfDnW pic.twitter.com/ZfglKX2pMz
